Day 22 - Fri - 08/28/26 - Day 3 - At Sea to Canada
It was really nice to sleep in with no alarm. Shortly after we had awakened, the Captain came on the PA system with an emergency announcement that blood donors were needed for a passenger that needed a transfusion. Volunteers with specified blood types were encouraged to report to the Crown Grill with their blood donors cards. We heard nothing further the rest of the day. For the patient, it's got to be a bit scary to be half way between Europe and Canada and needing the transfusion. There's literally no external help available within hundreds if not thousands of miles. For these crossings we typically do not see another ship until we are closer to the end of the crossing. It's just the big blue ocean with its waves, wind, and critters that we see.
After breakfast we attended the Life at Sea interview with 1/2 of the cast of singers and dancers along with Allwyn our cruise director. We've attended these type interviews and there wasn't anything particularly new except to learn that the costumes are stored on racks like in a commercial laundry or dry cleaning establishment but it stretches up 3 or 4 stories. Unlike Holland America which hires an agency to create their cast shows, Princess develops them in house (sometimes with help from professional creators like Stephen Schwartz (creator of Wicked, Pippin, and others). This creative work is now done in Miami.
After lunch, Dr. Angel gave the first of several talks on the history of anatomy and early surgery. It was once again very informative and I love his lecture style of walking around and talking without notes. The 45 minutes goes by pretty fast.
The rest of the afternoon until our Captain's Circle party was spent working on my blog and reading from the warm section of the LIDO. At the Captain's Circle party, the Duture cruise consultant noted that there were 403 1st time cruisers, 379 Gold level, 246 Ruby, 669 Platinum (with 25 attaining Elite status this cruise including us) for a total of 2,573 guests. The party was really short and we then headed up to the Brazilian pop up dinner which is a casual dining option for a fee of $14.99 per person plus a 18% gratuity. It was just okay and worth the $15. The pork ribs were very dry, the carrot cake distasteful, and the service a bit slow and not well coordinated with the side dishes. On the positive side, the beef rib meat was super tender and flavorful and the lobster bisque excellent.
Because we ate a later dinner and the show times were earlier, we went to the second show which was a sand picture artist, Svetlena whom we've seen before. It was very engaging and pretty. I finished my night out spending a few minutes in the 80's party, but the music definitely isn't my genre and was too loud, so I retired to the room to finish my daily blog. Tonight once again we roll our clocks back another hourTomorrow is sea day #4, and it looks like the schedule will be somewhat similar but with an additional lecture by Dr. Angel Colon.
