Day -1 - Thu - 08/06/26- Exploring Copengagen
We both had a good night's rest and woke up refreshed. Our room rate includes complementary breakfast so we prepped for our day. We couldn't get the room safe to open so after breakfast we stopped by the front desk to arrange for a repair. The breakfast buffet was the best we've ever experienced with a wide selection of fruits, cheeses, meats, bread and pastries, drinks.
We returned to the room and a couple young men came up to open our safe and they, too, could get the door open. Finally, one of them used a small pry tool and the door swung open. They didn't have parts to fix it, so they went down to their workshop and were back in 10 minutes with a spring that brought the safe back to life. With that item fixed, we headed off to the light rail station a few blocks away where a helpful employee aided me in downloading the app to more easily travel on the train. Trains run every 5 minutes and soon we were under way to the Central Station which was about 20 minutes away.
Emerging from the station we found the nearest hoho bus stop a few blocks away. Interestingly there are 4 hoho bus companies and they all use red busses with slightly different logos. Our company, City Sightseeing Tours operates 3 color coded lines that are included in one's ticket price. I had purchased our tickets online for less than $50US each so the mobile app was our ticket. We started with the red line at stop #12 and it lasted 1.5 hours. For me the key stop was the iconic little mermaid statute and I wasn't disappointed. Back at stop #12, our next bus was at 12:45pm, so we fiund a nearby McDonald's and enjoyed a terriaki chicken wrap sandwich. We boarded the 12:45 bus for the 45 minute purple route tour. Back at stop #12, the bus became a green line tour so we didn't need to switch busses. When that tour ended, we switched back to the red line and rode it to the little mermaid stop where we left the tour. We viewed the statute again and then walked about just under two miles back to our hotel with a stop at a Japanese restaurant we saw the previous night. Our meals were excellent and was a perfect cap to our day.
