Day 20 - Wed - 08/26/26 - Day 1 - At Sea to Canada

We like sea days on long cruises.  On this first sea day on our way to Sidney, Nova Scotia, we chose to sleep in as we didn't have an event until 9am.  Kez gave her enrichment talk on 5 spices.  While all of these spices are nice and we use many of them on a daily basis, they were all the source of conflict back in the day.  Each one provoked power trips by the desiring country, oppression of those doing the farming and growing, and immense pleasure by those enjoying them.  The five spices that she covered were pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and vanilla. It was an interesting and engaging presentation.  For the rest of the morning, I just chilled out and worked on my blog and enjoyed watching the ocean pass by at about 20 miles per hour.  After all of these years of cruising, I still find it so amazing that we cover such immense distances at such a slow rate of speed.

Angela had her daily pop choir rehearsal at 12:15pm like will be every sea day.  So I decided to try a burger from the Trident Grill located on the LIDO deck 14 up front.  It was a really good burger (double meat & cheese with bacon) and the first I have eaten on board since the beginning of the cruise. The waiting time was a bit long but oh so worth it.

We met up again at at 1:15pm for the Progressive Music trivia with our CD, Allwyn.  Today's topic were classic songs from primarily the '50's to the '70's.  At 2pm we stayed for the enrichment talk on Gibraltar by Dr. Angel in the Club Fusion lounge in the aft of the ship.  He's appears to be a very knowledgeable historian and much of what he said about Gibraltar we already knew as we've been there several times and have heard other lecturers on the topic.  The venue isn't the best for the lecture as the screen is very small and set back from the audience.

The rest of the afternoon we chilled out in the room.  There were lots of activities to participate in including several different types of trivia,  but we preferred the quiet time to relax and read.

Tonight was a formal night and while we don't do the formal dress up, we enjoyed a nice LIDO dinner before watching the cast show Let Me Entertain You which we saw on the previous segment of this cruise.  Afterwards we made our way to the Explorer's Lounge for the game show,   Make Your Play.  In this game, the room is divided into two groups labeled "Fore" and "Aft".  We were in the "Aft" group.  The host gave a word like "Grand" and the group had one minute to guess words that would follow "Grand" like piano.  If the group guessed all ten words, they scored the point.  If not, the other group had one chance to guess one of the in-guessed words.  It was a fun game and we lost by one point.

The last event we attended was the ABBA party back in Club Fusion.  The party band and singers did a half hour of ABBA songs and there was a lot of dancing going on.  Every night on the sea days there will be a theme night.  Tomorrow is Country/Western night with line dance instruction occurring before the event.  Angela did her karaoke session before we retired for the evening after a nice day at sea.

I should also note that I've been working on setting up a Meet & Greet for Cruise Critic members for our next cruise which is a three week one to small ports in Alaska out of Vancouver, BC.  I finally received confirmation that the Meet & Greet was confirmed which was good news.  I shared it electronically with the group and received a lot of positive feedback.
